WARNING
Lithium
polymer batteries pack vast amount of energy into a small volume so
they must be handled with cautions. The principal risk is fire, which
can result from improper charging, crash damage, or shorting the
batteries. Charging with incorrect charger MAY ALSO CAUSE FIRE OR EVEN
EXPLOSION. Please use Lithium Polymer battery charger ONLY. Never use chargers designed for Ni-Cd batteries.
The
manufacturers, distributors, and retailers are not liable for any
damage caused by incorrect charging or discharging of Lithium Polymer
Battery. If you do not agree, please return our batteries.
Please read and follow the safety precaution carefully.
Safety Precaution
- Store and charge Li-Poly battery in a fireproof container.
- Never attempt to charge a cell with physical damage.
- Always use chargers designed for lithium polymer battery ONLY.
- If battery temperature exceeds 50C (122F), terminate charging.
- Charge with Thermal Protection charger is recommended.
- Maximum charge current at 1.05 Amp(1C).
- Dispose recycle under local environmental rules only.
- Do not charge battery unattended and overnight.
- Do not heat or throw battery into a fire.
- Do not short circuit the (+) and (–) terminals with metal object.
- Do not use or store battery close to fire or inside the car where temperature may be over 60°C.
- Do not immerse in, or apply fresh seawater to battery.
- Do
not put batteries in your pockets or a bag together with metal objects
such as necklaces, hairpins, coins, or screws. Do not store batteries
with such objects.
- Do not pierce battery with a sharp object such as a nail.
- Do not hit with a hammer, step on, throw or drop to cause strong shock.
- Ascertain
the direction of (+) and (-) before connect the battery to the charger
or equipment. Do not forcefully connect the battery when it is not well
connected.
- Do not disassemble or modify the battery.
- Charge with a balancer/connector ONLY. No direct voltage wires charge.
- Each cell does not charge over 4.25V, otherwise battery may catch fire.
Precaution in Handling
- Prohibition of mechanically damaged cells such as dropping
- Please do not use the battery pack that are yielded, dented or bent on their terrace part or cup part by mechanical shock such as dropping
- If
any damage (black colored point, Aluminum corrosion, crack, etc.) was
found on laminated film package of the battery pack, please do not use
them.
- Please do not damage the battery pack.
- Casing
of the cell is Aluminum laminated plastic film. The laminated film is
easy to be damaged by sharp edge such as pin, needle, edge of devices
like nickel tabs, etc., comparing with metal casing cell.
- If laminated film packaging is damaged, electrolyte leakage may occur.
- Never short-circuit between positive and negative terminal wires.
- Short-circuit
gives damage to the battery pack. Please do not re-use short-circuit
battery pack even if short-circuit is not severe.
- Momentary slight short-circuit may cause voltage drop and change of impedance.
- Please
be careful that severe short-circuit may cause not only large voltage
drop, change of impedance, but also heat generation of the battery
pack. If the battery pack generates heat, heat sealed part of laminated
film may be damaged and possibly it leads to electrolyte leakage.
- The
battery packs are possible to be easy short-circuit between positive
and negative wires if placed on conductive surface such as metal table.
Please care about working environment when treating battery pack. For
example, using non-conductive table is recommended. Please do not leave
conductive tools close to the battery packs, etc.
- Do not store the battery pack near flame or heater. Otherwise the cell might be damaged or cause fire.
- Follow the polarity sign on the battery pack, make correct connection before use.
- Charge and discharge the cell with correct method, or it might reduce cycle life of the cell even damage battery pack.
- Do
not use the battery pack with other batteries. Or it might damage the
battery pack or other batteries due to excessive discharge or
unbalanced discharge.
- Do not solder lead directly to the battery pack body.
- Do not heat nor solder the terminal of the battery pack with a kind of metal.
- Do not put battery into microwave oven, dryer or high-pressure container.
- Do not use battery with dry cells and other primary batteries or batteries of different package type, or brand.

Caution
- Stop using the battery if abnormal heat, odor, color, deformation or abnormal condition.
- Keep away from fire immediately when leakage or foul odor is detected.
- If liquid leaks onto your skin or clothes, wash well with fresh water immediately.
- If
liquid leaking from the battery gets into your eyes, do not rub your
eyes. Wash them well with clean water and consult with a doctor
immediately.
- Store batteries out of reach of children so that they are not accidentally swallowed.
- If a child uses a battery, their guardian should explain the proper handling and adult supervision is required.
- Remove a battery whose life cycle has expired form equipment immediately.
- When
not using battery for an extended period, remove it from the equipment
and store in a place with low humidity and low temperature.
- Keeps battery away from objects or materials with static electric charges.
- If the terminals of the battery become dirty, wipe with a dry cloth before using the battery.
- The battery can be stored within the -10 to 40°C range.

Emergency Safety Alert: Lithium Battery Fires

Lithium
batteries are becoming very popular for powering the control and power
systems in our models. This is true because of their very high energy
density (amp-hrs/wt. ratio) compared to Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cds) or other batteries. With high energy comes increased risk in their use.
The principal risk is fire which
can result from improper charging, crash damage, or shorting the
batteries. All vendors of these batteries warn their customers of this
danger and recommend extreme caution in their use.
In spite of this many
fires have occurred as a result of the use of Lithium Polymer (Li-Poly)
batteries, resulting in loss of models, automobiles, and other
property. Homes and garages and workshops have also burned.
A lithium battery fire is very
hot (several thousand degrees) and is an excellent initiator for
ancillary (resulting) fires. Fire occurs due to contact between lithium
and oxygen in the air. It does not need any other source of ignition or fuel to start, and burns almost explosively.
These batteries must be used in a manner that precludes ancillary fire. The following is recommended:
- Store and charge in a fireproof container, never in your model.
- Charge in a protected area devoid of combustibles. Always stand watch over the charging process. Never leave the charging process unattended.
- In
the event of damage from crashes, etc., carefully remove to a safe
place for at least a half hour to observe. Physically damaged cells
could erupt into flame. After sufficient time to ensure safety, damaged
cells should be discarded in accordance with the instructions which
came with the batteries. Never attempt to charge a cell with physical damage regardless of how slight.
- Always use chargers designed for the specific
purpose, preferably having a fixed setting for your particular pack.
Many fires occur in using selectable/adjustable chargers improperly
set. Never attempt to charge lithium cells with a charger that is not
specifically designed for charging lithium cells. Never use chargers designed for Ni-Cd batteries.
- Use
charging systems that monitor and control the charge state of each cell
in the pack. Unbalanced cells can lead to disaster if it permits
overcharge of a single cell in the pack. If the batteries show any sign of swelling, discontinue charging and remove them to a safe place—outside—as they could erupt into flames.
- Most important: NEVER PLUG IN A BATTERY AND LEAVE IT TO CHARGE UNATTENDED OVERNIGHT. Serious fires have resulted from this practice.
- Do not attempt to make your own battery packs from individual cells.
These batteries cannot
be handled and charged casually such as has been the practice for years
with other types of batteries. The consequence of this practice can be
very serious and result in major property damage and/ or personal harm.
